Joakim Ojanen (b.1985, Västerås, Sweden) lives and works in Stockholm. Ojanen received a BA and an MFA in Crafts and Design at Konstfack University College of Arts, Stockholm in 2012 and 2014 respectively. Selected solo and duo exhibitions include: ‘Kick Off’ at Dio Horia Gallery, Athens;We've Danced For A While Now And I'm Slowly Learning Your Steps’ at Nanzuka Underground, Tokyo; ‘The part you throw away' at The Hole, New York; ‘A show for the lonely distant baby souls’ at Richard Heller Gallery, Santa Monica. Selected group exhibitions include: 'Universes 5’ at The Hole, New York, NY; 'New Construction’ at The Hole, Los Angeles; ‘Hollywood Road’ at AishoNanzuka, Hong Kong. Ojanen’s work is currently part of prestigious art collections, including Magasin III, Stockholm; Colección Solo, Madrid; Statens Konstråd (Public Art Agency Sweden), Stockholm; The Bunker Artspace, Palm Beach; Västerås Art Museum, Västerås; Eskilstuna Art Museum, Eskilstuna; Åberg Museum, Bålsta; Frans Masereel Centrum, Kasterlee; Göteborgs Stad, Göteborg; Ståhl Collection, Norrköping; Linköping Kommun; Östersunds Kommun; Katrineholms Kommun; Gävleborgs Län; Värmdö Kommun and the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries, the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been featured in major media, including Hypebeast and the Los Angeles Times, among others.

 

Trying to pinpoint the feelings and moments of loneliness, sadness, happiness, cluelessness and the likes, Ojanen's work is a place for memories and ordinary situations - but twisted (some times real twisted). It's a place for Ojanen to figure out the world and himself.
