Aleksandar Todorovic (b. 1982, Belgrade, Serbia) , a Serbian artist and graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade with a Master in Fine Arts, brings a politically engaged approach to his art, confronting the concept of evil with a satirical touch. Employing traditional Byzantine painting techniques, Todorovic subverts the visual norms of Western pop culture, advertising, and Eastern Christian tradition.
Todorovic’s illustrative, meticulous, and accessible visual style aims to understand the origins and ramifications of evil. The artist skillfully sugarcoats the darkness of his subject matter with politically incorrect humor, vibrant colors, and cartoon-like cheerfulness, all while incorporating a rich vocabulary of personally developed symbols. Internationally acclaimed for his use of traditional Byzantine painting techniques and materials, Todorovic received critical attention for his distinctive artistic practice.
Having participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions worldwide, Todorovic has showcased his works at institutions such as the Contemporary Art Gallery at Smederevo Museum in Serbia. Notable exhibitions include "Brave New Normal World" at Dio Horia Gallery, Athens, and "Religion Remastered" at the Contemporary Art Gallery at the Museum of Smederevo, Smederevo. Selected group exhibitions encompass venues like Aisho Nanzuka in Tokyo and Narodni muzej Valjevo in Valjevo, showcasing the breadth of his impact on the contemporary art scene. Todorovic's international recognition is further evidenced by his inclusion in the publication and exhibition "100 Painters of Tomorrow" by Thames & Hudson and Beers Contemporary.
