Mira Dancy (b. 1979, Newcastle, UK) lives and works in New York. She received her B.A from Bard College in 2001 and graduated with an M.F.A. from Columbia University in 2009. Selected solo exhibitions include: ‘Psychic Nerve’ at Chapter NY, New York; Frieze LA, Los Angeles; ‘Supple As The Supplicant’ at Galería Agustina Ferreyra, México City. Selected group exhibitions include: ‘3.0’ at Chapter NY, New York; ‘Therefore I am’ at Spurs Gallery, Beijing; ‘Majeure Force, Part One’ at Night Gallery, Los Angeles. The artist has been featured in numerous art publications, e.g.: Creative Boom, Contemporary Art Review LA and Vogue. Executed in bright fluorescent colors, Mira Dancy’s artworks exhibit a radical, feminist-inspired approach. Subverting traditional stereotypes of women in art history, Dancy’s figurative paintings and nudes invite viewers to a ceremonial feast, celebrating the beauty, sensuality and animalistic nature of her combative and liberated figures, setting a striking example in self-reliance and resilience.
