Sculptural Installation

I could summarize my artistic practice in two short sentences: I like to travel and to make things with my hands. Mostly to fold papers or fabrics. So, after seeing the modern Atlantic Rainforest on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro and the Megalithic Temples of Malta, I returned to the studio in Polydrosso and began kneeling on the floor to open and fold rolls of odule, craft paper and thick white cotton fabric - they call it "Irlanda", the fabric they use for fustanelles. I have been working a lot for the past few years following youtube tutorials on origami designs and other crafts. So far, I have not been at all concerned with making my own designs. On the contrary. I am excited by the idea that this design that is not mine, when my hands take over, after I decide the material, the scale and the reference I want to give it, becomes an object very much my own. The garden at Polydrosso is full of these palm fan-like leaves. They remind me of Brazil. Just much smaller.
